“The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong in the broken places.”  These words from Ernest Hemingway’s A Farewell to Arms come closest of any I’ve ever read to describing the experience most of us have as we make our way through this world.  Life’s hardships can bring tremendous pain, but the journey of healing can bring into being a strength we never knew we possessed.  

The words of this bracelet celebrate the strength of survivors and those who are agents of healing for them.  I have attached a piece of beach glass* as a symbol of the beauty that can come out of what once was shattered and sharp-edged.  My hope is that when you wear this piece of jewelry, you are reminded of where you have been, of the strength you now possess, and of the promise of healing and wholeness in the future.        Written by: LINDA

*Beach glass is the result of broken bottles and jars which have washed out to sea.  Over a period of years, the waves, sand and saltwater polish these jagged bits into beautiful, smooth gems which wash up among the shells and rocks on the shoreline.  I personally have collected each piece of glass that I use in my jewelry and have left it exactly as I have found it, except for the tiny hole I have drilled.
